SUMMARY:Book Signing with author W. Bruce Cameron – Love\, Clancy
DESCRIPTION:Join Writer’s Block Bookstore at the Center for Health & Wellbeing as we host author W. Bruce Cameron for an in-person book signing on his latest book\, Love\, Clancy. \nWe’re also thrilled to welcome an extra special guest to this event — one of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office K-9s! You’ll learn about a unique partnership between the Senior Resource Alliance and the OCSO to distribute Scent Evidence K-9 scent collection kits to the community for the elderly or children who may wander. We’ll be giving away these kits at the event\, and you’ll learn more about this life-saving program. \nThe event will be hosted by Amy Sweezey\, a familiar face to Central Florida TV viewers. After leaving full-time TV news in 2020\, she launched a career as a children’s book author\, public speaker and freelance TV reporter. \nBook Signing with author W. Bruce Cameron – Love\, Clancy \n \nTo register for this program\, please click here >>>\nIf you cannot attend the event but would like a signed copy\, please follow the link here\, and add in the notes you would like a signed copy. \nAbout LOVE\, CLANCY \nYou’ve probably never met someone like Clancy. He’s keeping a diary\, he’s falling in love\, there are rivals for his affections\, he lives with his best friend and his worst enemy – even taken together\, these factors are maybe not that unusual\, except that Clancy is a dog. His point of view is therefore perhaps…different. Told in Cameron’s signature style\, a tremendous cast of wonderful characters find themselves jointly and separately navigating the challenges of life\, of love\, and…other pets\, including Clancy’s “worst enemy” – one very disdainful cat. It’s a lot to keep track of\, especially when things start to spin hilariously out of control\, but fortunately\, we’ve got the observations of Clancy\, a very good dog\, who shares a valuable perspective on what is really important. \nABOUT W. BRUCE CAMERON \nW. BRUCE CAMERON is the #1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of A Dog’s Purpose\, A Dog’s Way Home\, and A Dog’s Journey (all now major motion pictures)\, The Dog Master\, A Dog’s Promise\, the Puppy Tales for young readers (starting with Ellie’s Story and Bailey’s Story)\, The Dogs of Christmas\, The Midnight Plan of the Repo Man\, and others. He lives in California. \nABOUT AMY SWEEZEY\nAmy Sweezey is a meteorologist\, author\, public speaker\, and mom of 3. She spent nearly 30 years in full-time TV news before leaving in 2020 to freelance for several media companies\, including Growing Bolder and Spectrum News 13 in Orlando. \nAmy has authored two children’s books about weather\, one fiction\, and one nonfiction\, and created two weather workbooks based on the Florida state standards for science and weather. She lives in Central Florida with her husband and three teenagers.

He developed the life-saving Scent Preservation Kit® and “The SEKR” Scent Evidence Collection Vacuum to provide K9 Trailing responders with uncontaminated scent articles and on-scene scent collection methods that increase location success while reducing the time it takes to find a target. \n  \n  \nAlun Williams is a retired police officer and has over forty years of experience in operational police work in Wales in the U.K. For twenty-five years he has worked police dogs from patrol dogs to explosive detection dogs. He was also responsible for the training of police dog teams in all aspects of dog work from explosive detection to narcotics\, firearms\, and other substances.\nIn 1999 he was the trainer involved in creating a dog team of scent trailing dogs that would respond to serious crime and missing persons upon request by any police services within the U.K. These cases involved very high-profile offenses such as murders\, rapes\, and high-risk missing persons. He was also part of this team using his trailing Malinois dog. This team was deployed all over the U.K and with the use of these dogs contributed to the successful conclusions of numerous cases. This experience he brings into his training structure. \nHe also has vast experience in obtaining human scent from crime scenes for use by the dogs for trailing. \nHe was also a National Police dog judge. \nHe has also given presentations to both National and International audiences in relation to the trailing system in police work. \nAt present\, he trains dog teams from the U.K.\, Germany\, and Switzerland and is also the subject matter expert on the trailing system with the National Policing Improvement Agency in the U.K. \nIna Ziebler-Eichhorn completed her veterinary Medicine training in 1989 and became a veterinary surgeon. She worked in her own practice in the Frankfurt area of Germany. In 2010 she became the manager of one of the largest animal shelters close to Frankfurt. This skill she uses in her own dog school which she formed in 2002 which specializes in nose work and problem dogs. \nBetween 2007 and 2009 she was responsible for hand-rearing three packs of European Grey wolves in order to educate the public for two wildlife parks. These wolves were reared in a large animal park where some of them still live today. this park is visited by thousands to view wildlife animals. She gave numerous presentations to members of the public at the park on a daily basis whilst she was inside the compound of the wolves (members of the public remained outside 🙂 ) in order to educate them on how the pack works and lives. \nAlso in 2007\, she became familiar with the system known today as mantrailing. She continued to educate herself on this system and also trailed with her own dogs and trained other K9 teams in the trailing system till up to operational level. \nIn 2009 she met with Alun Williams and together they continued to progress by training K9 teams in the trailing system in seminars throughout Europe. \nIn 2017 she attended an international Scent Summit in Austria as a trainer which was organized in order to bring together recognized trailing trainers to display their methods to dog teams. This summit was over a period of four days\, where the K9 teams were able to evaluate the trainer’s methods. SUMMARY:Bringing The Lost Home Summit 2022
DESCRIPTION:Second Annual Bringing The Lost Home Project Summit Recognizes Missing Person Response Success of Florida Agencies. \nTallahassee\, Florida (Feb. 15\, 2022) – Scent Evidence K9 will be hosting the second annual Bringing The Lost Home Project Summit in Tallahassee March 15 – 17\, 2022 to recognize the successes and share the best practices of project participants and community partners. In just over 2 years since the Bringing The Lost Home Project was introduced in Florida\, 114 people have been found and thousands at risk of wandering in Florida communities are better prepared and protected by the resources provided by the Bringing The Lost Home Project.\nK9 teams from 14 participating Florida Sheriff’s Offices and Police Departments have been invited to attend the second annual event and share their lifesaving K9 search results and best practices with other agencies around Florida. Participants will have the opportunity to learn new K9 search skills through advanced scent discriminate trailing exercises to support the project’s goals of improving missing person response capabilities\, K9 search recovery success\, and community awareness of Florida’s vulnerable populations with Alzheimer’s Disease and autism who are at high risk of wandering and going missing.\nThe Summit agenda will include a half-day focus group on March 15\, 2022\, beginning at 9:00 am with special guests The Alzheimer’s Project CEO\, John Trombetta\, and Senior Resource Alliance President and CEO\, Karla Radka\, to discuss the programs impact on their communities. K9 Teams will then attend a special Advanced Urban K9 Trailing scenario-based training seminar with Scent Evidence K9 CEO\, Paul Coley\, to further their K9 search capabilities in urban settings.\nThe Bringing The Lost Home Project bill was sponsored by Florida House Representative\, Scott Plakon and first signed into law by Florida Governor\, Ron DeSantis\, in June 2019. In the past 2 years\, Sheriff’s Offices in Escambia\, Orange\, Bay\, Sumter\, Seminole\, Lee\, St. Johns\, Charlotte\, Putnam\, DeSoto\, Nassau\, Franklin\, and Marion Counties\, and The Tallahassee Police Department have implemented Bringing The Lost Home Project services. Agencies participating in the program have seen large increases in their K9 search response success rate and many of the K9 Teams have multiple missing person recoveries to their credit including the latest by St. Johns County Sheriff’s Deputy\, Melanie Merritt and K9 Daisy. Dep. Merritt located a missing endangered woman on Feb. 13. The missing woman was found by the scent discriminate Bloodhound Team unconscious in the woods and transported to an area hospital. Merritt’s Bloodhound is also a big part of the Bringing The Lost Home Project. K9 Daisy was named after the favorite flower of Rep. Plakon’s late wife who passed from early onset Alzheimer’s Disease. The naming event took place at a Florida Senior Summit at the Tallahassee Capitol in 2020.\nScent Evidence K9 CEO\, Paul Coley\, and The Alzheimer’s Project CEO\, John Trombetta\, partnered to introduce the bill to help law enforcement better serve their populations with Alzheimer’s/Related Dementia and autism who are at high-risk of wandering and going missing. The Bringing The Lost Home Project enhances missing person response capabilities and recovery success by raising missing person awareness\, mitigating risk\, and improving search performance through the use of missing person response training\, scent discriminate K9 trailing\, and an innovative Scent Kit program that helps to create missing person awareness and provides an effective way for families and caregivers to prepare for a wandering event before it happens.\nThe program is focused on recovering individuals who have a propensity to wander or elope with a rapid response and recovery. The program provides Scent Preservation Kits® or “Scent Kits” to families with loved ones living with Alzheimer’s Disease or related dementia (ADRD)\, and autism.\nThe Alzheimer’s Project identifies groups and areas in need of services and works educate residents about the Scent Kits and Missing Person Awareness for at-risk groups. They also provide Alzheimer’s awareness training to the participating agencies to help mitigate potential trauma to the individual and expand law enforcement interaction skills with a person who has dementia.\nBringing The Lost Home Project also includes Missing Person Response Protocol and Scent Discriminate K-9 Trailing training for the participating agencies which will impact law enforcement response capabilities by increasing search success and decreasing the time and resources needed to find missing persons.\nProtecting and Recovering People At Risk of Wandering\nFlorida has the second-largest Alzheimer’s Disease population in the U.S. with over 580\,000 residents living with the disease. That number is projected to climb to 720\,000 by 2025. Studies show that 60% or 3 of every 5 persons with Alzheimer’s Disease or dementia will wander and go missing. The numbers are almost as high for children with autism. The American Pediatric Association states that 50% of those with children with autism will wander/elope and go missing at least once before age 17.\nScent Evidence K9 CEO\, Paul Coley\, a former FBI Forensic Canine Operations Specialist\, has made it his company’s mission to not only improve missing person response capabilities for communities but to protect individuals before they go missing.
