New Liberty County Bloodhound Team Locates Robbery Suspect

The new Liberty County bloodhound team of Captain Lonnie Bowman and K-9 Charlie successfully trailed and located their first suspect on 7/11/19.  The K-9 Team received their training at the Scent Evidence K9 Corporate Training Office in Tallahassee, FL just a few weeks prior to the find. Charlie is a human scent discriminate bloodhound who has deployed on several cases in Tallahassee with Scent Evidence K9 CEO, Paul Coley and has multiple confirmed trails to his credit. “We are proud when the bloodhounds and handlers we’ve trained have an immediate positive impact on the safety of their communities,” said Coley.

Bloodhound Charlie Liberty County Swearing In

The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office released the following statement.

On Thursday, July 11, 2019, Liberty County Deputies were called to assist the Hinesville Police Department in the vicinity of Briarwood Circle near Airport Rd. Hinesville P.D. Officers were in pursuit of Jaquay Rackwon Smith, who was a suspect in several Hinesville area robberies. Smith also had numerous outstanding warrants for Aggravated Assault, Theft of a Firearm and Failure to Appear. After HPD Officers, a State Trooper and Liberty County Deputies set a perimeter, Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Captain Lonnie Bowman and his bloodhound Charlie arrived to locate Smith. A short time later, bloodhound Charlie located Smith hiding behind a house and Smith was taken into custody without incident. The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office recently acquired bloodhound Charlie from Scent Evidence K9 to assist in locating not only fleeing suspects but also missing persons and those with Alzheimer’s Disease or Autism who at risk of wandering. Charlie was purchased with funds collected from community donations after several recent incidents identified the need for a scent discriminate Bloodhound. Charlie has become not only a valuable tool for the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office but a member of the family.

The new Liberty County bloodhound team have also been testing new scent collection techniques that build from the Scent Evidence K9 M77® Human Scent Discriminate Program. Their testing includes using the collected scent from a deployed taser dart to successfully trail a target.
